Every spring, rain and melting snow wash harmful chemicals off roads and parking lots into nearby rivers and streams. This polluted stormwater runoff can be deadly to salmon, especially Chinook salmon, which are an important food source for orcas in the Pacific Northwest. Researchers from Western Washington University are studying how these toxins affect the health of salmon and the broader ecosystem, aiming to protect both the fish and the animals that depend on them.
