Northwest Salmon Research: COVID-19 Pandemic update

Northwest Salmon Research: COVID-19 Pandemic update

Due to the necessary health & safety restrictions impacting public facilities, parks and schools accesses, travel and social distancing, related to the COVID-19 pandemic, We (NWSR, Puyallup Tribes, WDFW, Tacoma Public schools, Puget Sound Anglers/Gig Harbor, and partners) have officially postponed the C.O.R.E. rearing and research project at Point Defiance Park.

We will re-visit the Point Defiance location after the restrictions are lifted and the health & safety environment allows.

We are coordinating pivoting the C.O.R.E. Temporary Rearing & Research facility (net pens) location back down to Tacoma Narrows marina in a couple of weeks. We plan to use the same netting that was utilized last year at the same location. The NWSR/C.O.R.E. Juvenile Salmon have all been coded wire tagged and adipose fin clipped and are doing well at Puyallup and WDFW hatcheries- Our science & education collaboration will be sustained through continued, coordinated data collection and sharing. NWSR, Puget Sound Anglers and our adult volunteers will feed and oversee the primary care and data collection when our new “babies” are transferred to Narrows Marina. Thanks for your understanding and continued support as we navigate these challenging circumstances.

Stay Healthy!
